The Medicine
What Is Kambo?
Kambo is a secretion from the giant monkey frog (Phyllomedusa bicolor), native to the Amazon basin. It has been used for centuries by Indigenous peoples — including the Matsés, Katukina, and Yawanapi — as a powerful physical and energetic practice for hunters, warriors, and community members seeking clarity, strength, and the removal of what the tradition calls 'panema': heaviness, stagnation, and misfortune.
Kambo is not a psychedelic. It does not produce hallucinations or altered states of consciousness. It is a deeply physical experience — intense, brief, and purposeful — that typically lasts 20 to 40 minutes and is followed by a profound sense of clarity, lightness, and reset.
Dr. Courtni Hale has worked with Kambo for approximately 15 years, having been taught through an Indigenous lineage. She brings both traditional knowledge and a Ph.D.-level understanding of human psychology, physiology, and integration to every session.
What to Expect
Preparation
You will receive detailed preparation guidelines before your session — dietary, physical, and intentional. Preparation is not optional. It is the beginning of the ceremony.
The Session
Small points are opened on the skin and the Kambo secretion is applied. The body responds quickly and intensely — typically including purging, heat, and a racing heart — for 20 to 40 minutes. Dr. Courtni holds the space throughout.
Integration
After the acute phase passes, most people experience a deep calm, mental clarity, and a sense of having shed something heavy. Integration support is provided to help you work with what arose.
Who Comes to Kambo
Veterans
Carrying PTSD, moral injury, hypervigilance, chronic pain, or the weight of experiences that followed them home. Kambo is offered through the Veterans Holistic Healing Delaware Meetup group.
Executives & Leaders
Seeking a physical and mental reset from chronic stress, decision fatigue, and the accumulated weight of high-performance living.
Athletes & High Performers
Interested in physical optimization, recovery, mental clarity, and removing the energetic residue of sustained high-output performance.
Spiritual Seekers
Drawn to traditional Indigenous practices and seeking a direct, embodied experience of energetic clearing and renewal.
Safety, Contraindications & Screening
Kambo is a powerful practice and is not appropriate for everyone. Dr. Courtni conducts a thorough intake and screening process before every session. There are absolute contraindications — including certain heart conditions, psychiatric medications, pregnancy, and others — that will be reviewed during your intake.
Your safety is the first priority. If Kambo is not appropriate for you at this time, Dr. Courtni will tell you clearly and may recommend an alternative path.
